Kavaklıdere, Hoşdere, Bentderesi, Cevizlidere, İncesu Street… Ankara residents may not realize it, but every day while walking the streets and avenues of Ankara, they are actually crossing over streams that are now underground.
When Ankara was declared the capital of the young Republic in 1923, another element that would bring life to the city stood out in the initial plans for this landlocked city: streams. 20. Rebuilt in the first half of the century and hosting the Atatürk reforms, this city lost its streams as it grew. Today, the capital, known in people’s minds as a “grey city,” still has streams silently flowing beneath its streets, but most of its inhabitants continue their daily lives unaware of this. A group of activists, however, remember these lost streams and wonder what happened to them, continuing to trace their remains. Do these streams, found in old photographs, memories, and maps, still live on underground?
“Under The Road, The River!” belgeseli, Ankara’nın kayıp derelerinin izini sürüyor ve bu derelerin tekrar gün yüzüne kavuşturulması için verilen mücadeleye ışık tutuyor.
