After the lake and its surrounding land were transferred to the administration of ODT\u00dc, the university, starting from the 1960s, together with its students, workers, academics, and the people of Ankara, planted trees on this land, took care of it, and brought life to it. The reforestation efforts in this region were awarded the world-renowned Aga Han Award for Architecture in 1995. However, during those same years, various interest groups realized that they could profit from the lake and its now forested, lush surroundings, and therefore, unfounded claims began to emerge, such as ODT\u00dc not taking good care of the lake and that the lake was closed to the public. These debates have increased significantly in recent years. These days, some politicians are arguing that this lake should be taken away from ODT\u00dc, citing newly enacted laws.
